Are your staff performance reviews a last-minute action? Are you rushing into a meeting with a staff member with a hurriedly refreshed review and a few notes?

I just finished a meeting with an academic at a Victorian University; I’m genuinely excited about this meeting. Of course, she is extremely experienced in regards to the Performance Development framework with decades of experience, so what value could I add to her managing her team this year?

I can add an outside perceptive; a plan for her to build a stronger relationship with her staff, understand potential roadblocks and put a system of support in place. Following our meeting, she has a plan for 2022 to manage her direct reports. She is about to send out a welcome note to schedule in their monthly performance meetings, which are layered with processes, to understand their needs, challenges and aspirations, and include a plan to achieve them.

Following or meeting she will have a view of not only the KPI’s of her team but what and how they best can achieve their goals, she now knows what motivates them and how to most effectively reward, and therefore has a clearer picture of how to manage this team to achieve success.
